In his book Country Lawyers, Dr. Donald Landon states that a century ago almost all lawyers were country lawyers. These individuals were often the most knowledgeable and active in community affairs. He observes that lawyers in rural settings are much more likely to be active in community organizations and much more likely to seek political office than their counterparts in urban areas.
