Survival for early Ozarks settlers often required resiliency, determination and the ability to adapt to new and challenging environments. Many of these early settlers were Scotch and Irish who migrated from Kentucky and Tennessee and who brought a 'make do' attitude that allowed them to build homes, churches, schools and businesses out of plentiful native rock.
