Shape Note Music: Heavenly Sounds

Special | 25m 21s

Music traditions play a large role in our Ozarks heritage. One of these traditions is shape note music, a style of singing using the fa-sol-la solmization, the singing of syllables; to teach part-music to otherwise musically untrained people. Rural singing schools developed and greatly influenced gospel singing in the region. Like many rural traditions, shape note music struggles to survive.
