Most of the time when we let him out, he tries to just walk right back in his house because he wants to go back to bed.
Hi I'm Lara I'm a temp zookeeper here at the Lake Superior Zoo.
Today we are here with Xerox, our Argentine, black and white tegu.
He is about three years old and he's just enjoying a day in the exercise yard.
In March of 2025, there was a mall zoo at the Roseville Mall in Roseville, Minnesota, called SeaQuest that very quickly went bankrupt.
The Lake Superior Zoo took in over 200 animals, most of which were budgies, like your little parakeet species.
But we also took in Xerox.
We believe that he had metabolic bone disease, which is a very common affliction for reptiles.
If they're not getting the proper nutrients and calcium when they're growing.
So we have been working very hard to keep him in better health.
In the last few months we've been seeing a lot more of a personality from him.
He when he finishes his reptile links, if there's no more food available and you aren't quick with it.
He'll try and eat your feet.
Xerox will be heading out to another facility in June to be an ambassador animal.
So he will get to go on programs and help be an ambassador for his species.
He is a very determined man.
He will do whatever he wants.
